El 4 de octubre de 1971 se iniciaban las clases de Humanidades en el recién fundado Colegio Universitario de Filosofía y Letras de Córdoba, en aquel momento vinculado a la Universidad de Sevilla, inaugurado de manera oficial el día 14 de esemismo mes. Colegio que dos años más tarde se transformaba en Facultad con su adscripción a la Universidad de Córdoba, creada en septiembre de 1972. Este curso universitario el antiguo Hospital del Cardenal Salazar cumple, por tanto, 50 años desde que se pusieron en marcha en su interior unas enseñanzas universitarias de Humanidades que, en 1976, ofrecían las primeras promociones de licenciados en Filología Hispánica y Geografía e Historia por la Universidad de Córdoba.

Desde entonces, la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras se ha convertido en un Centro docente e investigador de primer nivel, dinámico y creativo, con frondosas ramificaciones que enlazan con la sociedad y con las instituciones de la ciudad y de la provincia de Córdoba. Hoy oferta 14 grados e itinerarios conjuntos, matricula más de 500 estudiantes de nuevo ingreso cada año, suma más de 2300 estudiantes y se ha convertido en el Centro de la Universidad que mayor número de estudiantes Erasmus recibe cada curso. La Facultad ha puesto especial interés en firmar convenios con Universidades de prestigio, como la de Oxford, con la que recientemente se ha cerrado un acuerdo por el que dos investigadores jóvenes del ámbito humanístico pueden estudiar en ella cada año. Son universidades socias University College London, King´s College London, la Universidad de Edimburgo o la de Paris IV Sorbonne. El programa PRESHCO, que este año celebra su 40º aniversario, es el más antiguo de los firmados en España con universidades norteamericanas y en él participan universidades tan prestigiosas como Wellesley College, donde estudiaron estadistas como Hillary Clinton y Madelene Albright.

En el ámbito de la investigación, la Facultad cuenta hoy con 28 áreas de conocimiento, agrupadas en 6 departamentos, y con 34 grupos de investigación que trabajan a nivel nacional e internacional. Diversas cátedras,aulas e iniciativas culturales de la Universidad se vinculan a la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, como la Cátedra Góngora, la Cátedra Córdoba Ciudad Mundo, el Aula de Religión y Humanismo, el proyecto de divulgación científica Arqueología Somos Todos o el Coro Averroes, lo que la convierte en un referente cultural en el ámbito de los estudios humanísticos.

Por ese motivo, no era posible dejar pasar esta ocasión para organizar un programa de actos que permita recordar dicha efeméride con una mirada al pasado, agradecida a todos cuantos han hecho posible el desarrollo del Centro, y situar la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de cara a un futuro que debe pasar por ofrecer una formación cada vez de mayor calidad, que nunca olvide el Humanismo, y una investigación puesta al servicio de la sociedad en cuyo seno se desenvuelve. En esta página se irá actualizando la información sobre los actos e iniciativas que se desarrollen a lo largo del curso, a los que todos están invitados y que confiamos hagan de este un curso no solo especial, sino inolvidable.
