The city of Córdoba is the capital of the eponymous province. Together with the other seven Andalusian provinces, they make up the Autonomous Community of Andalusia.

The province of Córdoba covers an area of 13,723.20 square km, which represents 2.7% of Spain. Its population exceeds 750,000, the most important population centers being Lucena, Montilla, Cabra, Baena, Priego de Córdoba, Palma del Río, Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo, Pozoblanco and Villanueva de Córdoba.

Córdoba proper, the capital, has a population of 325,000, making it the third largest capital in Andalusia, behind Seville and Malaga.

It is located in the Guadalquivir Valley, on the banks of this river, between the Sierra Morena mountain range, to the north, and the wide plain that makes up the fertile Cordovan countryside, to the south.

The climate of our city can be considered Mediterranean, although it features all the characteristics of an inland Continental climate, with very hot and dry summers and cold, rainy winters.

To reach Córdoba by plane, the closest airports are those of Seville, Málaga, or Madrid, cities with which Córdoba is very well connected by both rail and roads.

By road there are multiple possibilities, as the city of Córdoba is located by one of the most important junctions in southern Spain.

  • From Madrid (400 km) it is possible to reach Córdoba on the A-4 Motorway in around 4 hours.
  • From Seville (140 km.) Córdoba can also be reached via the A-4, in approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  • From Malaga (182 km) one can reach Córdoba on National Highway 331 in about 2 hours.

Via the following link you can view all the transport companies that operate from the Córdoba Bus Station, complete with schedules and routes

Córdoba also has a railway station featuring high-speed trains connecting it with the country's main cities: Seville, Málaga, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, etc., as well as other trains with multiple possibilities to access other cities across the region: Algeciras, Cádiz, Granada, etc. You can check all your options on the RENFE page.
