BIODATA: Mazal Oaknín is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She teaches Spanish language and literature at University College London, where she is also a Language Coordinator. She has also taught Spanish in Malaga, New York, Paris and Birmingham. She is the co-editor of Literatura política y política literaria en España: Del Desastre del 98 a Felipe VI (Peter Lang, 2015) and her work has appeared in journals such as Espéculo, Fahrenheit 452, Alba Magazine, Transletters and Argus. Her research focuses on four main areas: contemporary Spanish literature, gender and identity, fiction in the digital age and representations of minorities. Her book Writing, Feminism and the Media in Spain is due to appear in summer 2019 (Peter Lang).
BIODATA: Marga Navarrete is a Lecturer (Teaching) and a Spanish Language Coordinator at University College London, UK, where she also teaches Spanish, translation and localisation at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Her research focuses on the impact of audiovisual translation (AVT) tasks on language learners’ competence. She has taken part in a number of AVT collaborative research studies on language learning, including the TRADILEX project, where she is designing AVT tasks and disseminating lessons learnt.
ABSTRACT: This workshop is part of the UCL Researcher-led Initiative Awards to support initiatives that develop and deliver transferable skills training experiences and/or resources to other colleagues across all departments. It is titled ‘Liberating the curriculum in the language classroom’ and it seeks to ensure LGBTQI+ inclusion, recognition and awareness in the modern language classroom. It belongs to the category of ‘Encouraging community building and engaging researchers to do the same’.
After an introduction by Leila El-Metoui, we shall propose a series of activities for advanced students of Spanish based on the LGBTQ+ Spanish
